If you’re deciding on roofing materials, you may be a bit overwhelmed by the number of options. Each one offers its own benefits, but cost needs to be considered, too. This video explains the differences between the different roofing materials so that you can choose the best roofing system for you and your home.
The first material brought up is natural slate roofing. Natural slate is a beautiful material that lasts a long time and is durable. This is a good thing because the initial investment is higher than other materials. They usually run from $1.75 per sq. ft. to $2.75 per sq. ft.
The next material is wood roofing. Organic and natural, wood roofing offers a unique look for homes. It does require a good deal of maintenance, however, and isn’t as resilient against fires as other materials. It costs even more than slate roofing, too, at $5-$8 per square foot.
Metal roofing is the most durable roofing option available, and it can last between 50 and 70 years. It requires little to no maintenance but costs $8-$12 per sq. ft. Finally there is the most popular option, asphalt roofing. This material is the cheapest at $0.50 to $2 per sq. ft.
